| GREAT GALAXIES! TAHOE DAVE'S TURNS 25! [Tahoe City, CA] Some say moderation is the straightest path to wisdom. But where would we be if everyone followed it. We'd have no visionaries, no revolutionaries, or saints - no Joan D'Arc, no Luther, no Garibaldi, no Alex Cushing, no, yikes! No Tahoe Dave's! It was 25 years ago that Dave Wilderotter, a young psychology grad from University of Michigan, opened a ski rental shop in Tahoe City promoting a great sport and lifestyle. "Our first day of business was huge," recalls Dave. "I rented all 30 pairs of ski inventory. I think I made enough to take my friends out to dinner." In its 25th season of "renting fun," Tahoe Dave's features five stores at four locations in King's Beach, Truckee, Squaw Valley and Tahoe City. Annually voted "Best Ski and Snowboard Rental Shop" on the North Shore by a local reader's poll, Tahoe Dave's prides itself as the original and oldest Burton snowboard dealership on the West Coast. Providing overnight repairs and race tunes at the lowest costs, Tahoe Dave stores are open 7:45 am to 8:00 pm six days a week, and until midnight on Fridays. Tahoe Dave's also rents kid's packages, cross country and telemark equipment, snowshoes, and head to toe clothing. "We started with one store and five employees," says Tahoe Dave's Controller and Vice-Presidents Marina Roberts. "It's been a lot of work, but a lot of fun helping Dave's business grow. His attention to personal service and a quality product have always been the key." Snowsports has changed quite a bit in 25 years. Luckily, some things stay the same. At the core of Tahoe Dave's are the ideas of freedom and fun. They are concepts so simple and pure, and so strong that those of us at Tahoe Dave's have centered our lives around capturing the feeling of flying down a mountain slope. Under a sky as wide as the face of time Tahoe Dave's continues to beckon customers into its stores from around the world, whispering simply how wonderful is life. Long live winter sports, long live Tahoe Dave's. |
